Thanks to Philip for his whisky bottle tutorial. I am pretty happy with everything but the lid which doesn't want to behave. It is supposed to be a dark grey shiny plastic.

Behaving lid or not, this is an excellent looking model you have here.

Yes great model to improve the render a bit I would tone down the HDRI image some there is a lot of overbright white.

Superb piece. Have to agree with Johnny though. Tone down the environment slightly. You might also find that the lid will start to behave a little better too. If not, then drop the diffuse value slightly.

Here is an update with toned down BG. Not sure about POV. What do you think?
There is a very slight DOF blur on both these images although it is barely noticeable. Also fixed up the label and finished modeling the top of the lid (extrusion dag). |

Here is the second one. Slightly different POV. Also disabled adaptive sampling which caused a few artifacts in the other image although it took 1/3 the render time!
Which of these do you think I should submit to the gallery ( If any?) |

Personally I prefer the second image. Much more dynamic POV

Thanks Mark,
I agree with you. Here is my final in-between shot. There are a few render artifacts caused by DConfusion but I think this will do for now. What do you think? Is is gallery worthy? |

Techi - thanks for the comment. It really isn't that hard. Follow the tut by Philip and you can't go wrong. All it needs is a bit of patience especially when rendering. Even on my big new machine, these took up to an hour and a half! On my old machine it would have been closer to 2 days which is why I never really tried one before.
Pay special attention to the Raytrace recursion limit which I always believed should be no less than 12. (I was wrong as 6 or 7 works quite nicely) Now does anyone know how to submit this to the gallery without duplicating the thread?

Second one is better - I like the slight angle to the camera although you've lost that beautiful creasing detail to the top of the box lid!

I'll change the name of the thread for you so it's got the 'Gallery Submission' bit in there (and move this to Finished work too).
I'll put the first mod vote in for this being uploaded... Anyone to second this? |
