Yeah, worked out why the eyes were bugging me..pretty obvious when I thought about it.:o
Saturation levels were way too high

Hopesfall - Look at the book "Inside Lightwave 7" (I don't know if its in IL8 as I don't have a copy) you'll find the tutorial there.

And just to clarify, I believe the tutorial was actually written by Stuart Aitken of Axis Animation who works alongside the phenomenally talented Graham McKenna!

Roux - is it my imagination or are the lips looking a bit squarish? I think they might need to be bump mapped just to break them up a little. But still, looking good!

Fallenswordsman: I stand corrected. It is Stuart Aitken who wrote the tute using the detail out or point by point method as opposed to splines ala Larry or box modelling ala ?
I think the lips is just a result of the angle, they extend quite a way back at the side of the mouth now but they may be a little wide for a female? As for the textures, I'm still messing :-)
I think I might jump straight into another character now that I have an idea of how to tackle it and see if I can make it look the way I intended!
