Just done the free red pepper tutorial - very interesting in making new more organic shapes.
One thing that I would like to ask - the instructor makes tapered 5 sided cylinders for the body of the pepper, then deletes the single end polygons, and adds in two to replace these manually - same for the stalk - why is this? the stalk and pepper are separate and not joined. I was wondering if this was better than extending the stalk out of the geometry on the top of the pepper? If anyone has any answers, that would be great. Thanks |

It could be because when doing sub-D modeling, LW likes four sided poly's and a five sided one would give you errors, like really ugly patches on the object. By creating two poly's, LW can handle four or three sided poly's much better.
By separating the stalk from the body of the pepper, you will get a better sharper crease between them for a better looking result. ![]()

Unfortunately (for reasons I can't comprend), they removed quite a few of the older tutorials, and the peppers tutorial is one that was taken. :-(
Others include: -Walk-cycle tutorial (the one with the round robot... never had a chance to buy it always wanted to try) -Basic Head Modeling -Bevel a Coffee Mug -Creature Feature -Ear Modeling -Front Projection -Lady in Red -Lava Lamp -Making Eyes -Normal Mapping -Ocean Scene -Quicktime VR Creation -Red Peppers -UV Mapping a Head I may have missed a couple. Most of these I'd purchased (before I became a lifetime member), so, I do miss them... -LeRoy3rd |

Wow... those are really cool. I am looking for stuff like that. Neat looking and less intimidating for a beginner like me. Spaceships look awaesome but I am trying to walk before I run.
Thanks for sharing. |

Thanks for the heads-up. I will admit that after re-watching some of these recently that the audio isn't great, but I'd rather have the videos as-is with bad audio than not have them available at all. :-( Seems like it would be win-win for you guys, put them in a "legacy" category, and sell them at a cheaper rate than the new tutorials. It will give beginners an easy way to start for very little money, AND it will give you money for something you were going to throw out. And just for the record, throwing these out is like cleaning your attic and throwing away a picaso because you don't have the room for it! ;-)
