This is looking better and better. Its got an almost Victorian Pea-Soup London feel to it. The lamppost itself looks a bit too rounded vertically at the moment but hopefully you can sort that out.

hey thanks for the comments i got rid of the first couple of pics just to save space and quicker loading i will upload the old pic to my site and i will give you the link
Swordsman can you explain what you mean a bit do you mean where it expands at the bottom cause i could just turn sub patch off and it will give it a sharper fall off |

Yep, that's right - I think its a subpatch problem you've got there with the falloff. If you do want to create the sharp falloff with subpatch turned on, all you have to do is select the polygons in each section of the lamp, cut them and paste them so they are not connected to the next section. That way, they still look as if they are part of a whole object but will not smooth out with the ajoining polygons as they are no longer connected.

Hey your lamp is looking very cool!
Btw, mgfx has an oil lantern tutorial. You might want to check it out to get some ideas. It also shows you how to texture. LINK

Yep - this is really starting to look great now! The glow works very well and the detail on the hanging bracket decoration look excellent.
@Erwin - never seen that one before, might give it a go myself! |

hey heres a very early very untextured scene but just think of the finished version
door colours will be changed and alleys will be added in between the houses and some old gates The lantern will be copied down and up the street a couple of times but that will come later let me know what you think don't worry about surface colours on the houses |

Looks good. I'd probably think about adding a secondary light source (a soft directional light would do it) for getting the ambient light in the scene, and tone down the shadow cast from the lantern a little though.
