Steampunk? I actually don't know what that is. I thought it might have beem some sort of IM/net lingo thing. I guess not. Anyway I was doing a Fox version of 007 with a little more of a twist that I've been holding back.
The texture is just for visualization purposes. |

steampunk is a genre referring to a fictional era in history, such as the 1700s or 1800s when steam engines were the furthest advancement in technology. The idea is that the era of steamengines also brought about things such as robots, ray guns, and other fantastical things using the technology of the day. Kind of like Doc Brown inventing a time machine out of a train in Back to the Future III or the big spider robot thing in Wild Wild West. Another good example is the machine from the classic The Time Machine.

Oops, Sorry about the mix up. I'm going to reevaluate the Idea and see if I can rework it to better fit. Hmmm....

Well, I was thinking about it all day. I was planning on putting armor on this guy. Instead, I'm just going to make a steam powered armor. Something like a steampunk Ironman.
I've got a book on Armor throughout the ages, and It's a good bit of inspiration. |

Nice armour - hope the confusion of the genre hasn't dissuaded you with your contest entry.
There are some fairly recurrant themes with steampunk - things like big levers, brass fittings, lots of rivets, old Victorian style technology brought up to date and of course, steam power. If you can do something like strap some sort of steam engine to his back, then you'll probably pass or take a look at a few examples from SimplyMaya. JSProgg's entry has the rivet thing down to a tee - lots of rivets and lots of plates. But its always best to make sure you don't run out of time as well... |

If you really want to get a feeling for the Steampunk genre, then the novel 'The Difference Engine' by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling is highly recommended...

Thanks a lot for the input. I feel kind of stupid not knowing about steempunk, since I used to be a serious Cybepunk fan. Gibson is one of my favorites. Man, I've been out of it for a while.

So, I've been doing research. The Steampunk comic from Wildstorm gave me a few ideas. But then I found Steamboy, this is cool. I was trying to work out some construction areas and this gave me a good bit of inspiration.
So I got a little bit of progress tonite. |

Once I get the basic form together, I'll start adding the hoses, gauges, pistons, spring, and a few other things.

I love the modeling its very minimalist (ammount of polys) and that's how it should be! Can't wait to see more!
