Thanks guys....not much to show of here - optimized the mesh a lot and did some more work on the windows to give them the proper outline. Also started work on the alcove bits...still plenty to do though :headbang:

Thought this might be of use.

Medieval Ornament. 950 Illustrations
Karl alexander Von Heideloff
Dover ISBN 0-486-28578-2

When you finish this, it will be one Kick Ass model. Don't scimp on the detail, it would be a shame. Excellent work.

About now keep in mind how you are going to texture it.

Odeone:

Thanks - that certainly looks like it may be a good resource, especially for the detailing. Unfortunately even though I have many photos of Tower Bridge, I have only a few close-ups that allow me to see some of the finer details. I'll probably have to visit the real thing at some point and take my own photos. I think there's a Dover bookshop within lunch hour walking distance of work, so I'll definitely take a look at the book and see if it can be of use.

I'm certainly trying to get in as much detail as I can - even stuff that won't necessarily be seen too well although Modo is still very new for me and I'm still feeling my way around it.

As for texturing; embarrassingly, I've only ever textured one model in my life - everything else I've never got to the texturing stage, but I suppose at the very least, I can start assigning materials to the various components. I think the brick details will certainly be textured as I don't think there's much point in me modelling individual bricks.

And thanks for the compliments. To be honest, I think this is the best piece of modelling I've ever done

Okay, started on the actual tunnel itself - lots of details to add though.

Superb detailing there mate. I'm with OdeOne there ... don't skimp on the detail. If you want some reference shots taking ... let me know what you need and when I'm back from vacation at the end of the month I can pop into town and take some for you...

Hi Mark

Many thanks for the offer - hopefully I have things covered though (I work in London so if I do need to get any detailed photos, I may well be able to do so myself) - but it is really good of you to offer. I appreciate it.

More detail added....still got the Corporation of London logo to stick on the thing and some more work on the central shield.

No worries. Live and work just outside the City myself (just past Richmond), but have clients in London [currently working out in Docklands ... real bitch to get to on the occasions I have to get out there]...

More mesh optimization and added a basic roof to the thing.

Nice. So how you settling into Modo. Preferring it now to Lightwave?

Cheers guys.

Odeone - funny you should say that - I still hanker to go back to Lightwave, but I'm determined to finish this model in Modo at least, so I can learn the toolset a bit better. I still prefer Lightwave as I've got a lot more experience in using it - with Modo, I'm still learning, so I still haven't found equivalent tools for everything I can do in LW. Can be somewhat frustrating at times.

Jocco - yeh textures are in the back of my mind at the moment, I think once I finish the details on the roof, I may have a go texturing that and then work my way down the model.

Gah - lack of Modo experience is really showing. Every so often, I learn a new tool and end up thinking "I could have really used that a lot earlier!" Instancing for instance. Rather than create duplicates of all the windows, I could have created instances of the windows, so whatever I did to the master window gets replicated throughout - if I now want to modify the windows, I have to do them all one at a time, or make changes to one version and then re-clone all the others. I also just found the "freeze curves" tool which may have potentially been useful for the various decorative parts. Oh well, its all learning.
