I think that was the first thing that I tried. The biggest problem with that was that I had kept the geometry low. and then trying to add a higher detail area to it the edge loops did not want to cooperate with each other. while keeping the original smoothness. So in essence what I did was build the edge loops separately, moved the new points as close to the old surface as I could, deleted the old geometry that overlapped and then joined them with new polys even then at the top of the fender I had to band-saw the polys to make room for the higher detail. Even then I still had to do a bit of point manipulation to fix some smoothing issues.

Some more done. Went a bit quicker now that I had a process. Not much more to go in the modeling. Still to go is the interior (super low detail - but that's the way they are) and the bottom of the car. Then on to texturing. I've never tried photo-real, might need a tutorial. I think there 's one here, I gotta check to see how many points I have left.

Just playing around with texturing a bit, saw a few errors so it gave me the opportunity to fix them. There is still so smoothing issues to deal with but it's coming along.

Thanx everyone. I was studying the mesh and I decided that the flow just wasn't what I wanted so I took a step back, and built a spline cage from the polys. With that I was able to get a much better poly flow and the smothness of the body curvs is so much better that it was before.

Well, since I can't seem to find the one I have I looked on ebay and found one cheep. So I'm going to hold off on any more modeling on this till I get it. Should be sometime next week.
