'pre-sets' is....the pre-built texture inside the package,
eg. u click plastic on a surface then you will get a nice plastic effect with textures map on it. er..so....can we? |

can you bake procedurals onto a UV (I know it can be done but is it allowed for the comp) to complement the textures Im making?
Im also trying to figure out the limitations of the game engines. how effective are bump maps. reflectivity do I need a UV map or will a general setting work. gradients, can they be used?

question about the final render:
may we use 'radiosity' and/or 'depth of field' in the final render?? or is that forbidden since games can't handle those effects!?! thanks!! |

-Procedurals are probably not the best way to go.
-Show one with the rendering effects and without. |

Hey, guys,
Just to let you know, I've completed the normal map tutorial and am going to be uploading it to Kevin tonight. Sorry it took so long! Now, it is done in Maya, so while the Maya-specific commands won't necessarily work for you guys, I hope the general info helps. Also, don't forget that Phil has done a normal map tutorial using LW here a while back! |

It has been decided to extend this challenge by one additional month!
The reasons are three-fold - 1) My lazy butt didn't get the normal mapping video done until the challenge was almost over, and I wanted to give you folks time to try it out. 2) To give everyone more time to finish and allow newcomers into the challenge. 3) To get the challenge schedule to end on December rather than having the New Year split a challenge period in half. Also, with Christmas and New Years, it's understandable that many people probably had a good 2-3 weeks taking part of the holiday rather than this challenge, and it'd be good to let people make up that time. Good luck! |
