** DOH **

Gaffer isn't available anymore because it was replaced by G2... Still, a little expensive for a one-off (but it's a really cool plugin though)...

Just a thought, but does your atmosphere object have cast shadows and receive shadows switched off?

[EDIT]
Just tried a quick test in 8 - took two default balls, one inside the other - gave a gradient on the outer ball on incidence angle, and seemed to render fine, without turning on raytracing, etc... No shadows were cast by the light however, so it could be down to shadow casting...

Looks good so far. I'd be tempted to darken the white in the smoke trail somewhat in the descent scene as that far from the sun, and in space where there's no atmosphere to provide diffuse reflection of light I'd think it would look less distinct ...

Come to think of it, but in space, would there be a smoke trail like that anyway?

yeah, there is. I watched a vid from the nasa website, and it had it. buts it prob just like what u said eariler about not seeing things in space but films have mad audiences only relate to seeing what is possible not real, thats prob the same thing nasa did for there vid, after all if the viewer cant see somthing then whats the point :p

the movie is days away from completion, ill post a link to my site when its ready to go :p
