Default great things to come

just chatted with dave and the SimplyLightWave revamp is soon to come. Should only be a matter of days now. Yay!

I'm right now recording new tutorials that will be released with the new design (since the new download system is not compatible with the new one).

I might post a few teasers in here over the next couple of days...
So keep your eyes on this thread.

Unhappy Probably won't make me popular...

Hi people,

I may have missed the boat on this site, and if so I apologise without hesitation, but I do believe that people should say what's on their mind so long as it is with respect. So....

...1) What are the long term objectives of the site owners here? I appreciate the business aspect of Web sites, but it would seem that more work seems to be going into the "SimplyXXXXXXX" business than is being put into the SimplyLightwave site. I was so excited to find this site, but to be truthful am a bit disappointed with the infrequency of new material (and no, I don't mean free stuff, I mean stuff I can pay for! - Isn't that what business is about?). Yes, I appreciate that expanding the cause can attract new custom, but that shouldn't be at the cost of old customers....

2) I don't get the picture above about the new material coming. It's a picture of the Fender Stratocaster. Haven't we got that? Whilst it is one that I am not really interested in, I was hoping for some diversity, such as things like:
a) An army truck/Tank (not "yet another car" type tutorial you see on the net everywhere)
b) An aeroplane (e.g. A Boeing 747)
c) Roman Ruins
etc etc etc.
These idea's are NOT necesarily one's I want, but they are the type that is quite hard to find anywhere else, and they just came to me whilst I was typing this with one eye on the TV...

3) Low Poly Modelling with Texturing hints (e.g. How to make acceptable low poly models with good textures etc for putting in the background of animations).

For example, it would seem most tutorials deal with extreme detail on objects, such as the Fender Tut, the MacLaren etc... My interest is in creating animations with lost of things happening (future/modern cities with lots of background stuff going on), but to find tutorials on this sort of stuff is almost impossible.

Anyway, thats it from me. Please do not take my comments out of context. I do mean to be critical, but hopefully in a constructive way and not disrespectfully.

Thanks for reading,

Kevin McPoland

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the comments, very well put.

Part of the reason for the lack of updates is the fact Philip has been away working for a while. A lot of it however is myself and the updates that are being put into place across the simply network at the moment. There are new tutorials coming actually in fact there are some waiting for upload at the moment.

You are right in of the fact we have somewhat neglected simplylightwave in preference to some of the other simplyXXXXX sites. However the new site should go live tomorrow and you will start to see more tutorials go up over the next few weeks, in fact simplylightwave was the first site in our group we decided to overhaul for exactly the reasons you mentioned.

As for our longer term plans we intend to of course bring you more tutorials, as well as find another chap to give Philip a hand and thus increase the throughput of tutorials, as well as take the pressure off Philip a little.

In the next week you should start to see some substantial changes at simplylightwave as well as more tutorials.

Another part of it is when we first started there were no really detailed tutorials that went right through modeling to texturing something Philip has managed to do very well indeed. The Mc Laren and the Stratocaster tutorials between than clock up around 20 hours of video. Again these tutorials are almost complete now and I think Philip will go to shorter tutorials on a broader range of more diverse projects after there complete, it was just at the time as I say this sort of in depth project focused tutorial was not available anywhere else.

Thank you for the comments we are glad for the feedback we do realise that updates have been a bit slow of late and we are taking steps to correct this.

Thanks for the feedback.
David.
