Weights
I've made this thing with the purpose to try out texturing metal.
It just didn't go as I wanted it, just as like with all my textures. It never comes out the way I want it to. I even did the texturing tutorials by newtek but they weren't of any help. Now anyway, is this any good?

Hmm, well you can try www.presetcentral.com for some presets and then learn from there. Its a good start. And you can also try the presets in lightwave. They are also good to start with.

Also, don't forget to check over at www.luxology.net (look in the community section).

its looks as if you have a gradient assigned to each set of polys.
What kind of UV map did you apply to it, i would advise you to do a cylindrical UV,
