Default PASS RENDERS?

Reposted from wrong place!

Im making a very long batch of renders, I'd like to comp them all in AE, like with glass when you turn on all options it takes forever to render. I heard that you can multi pass render it. Can someone explain what I need to do to get this all firing up?

In a pont by point step?

im guessing u could render out anything seperatly and comp them together as long as u have alpha channels set up for those renders, or somthing like reflections could be comped on using the ADD or SCREEN setting in after effects.

yea I saw that on a site, does it work well?
I use glares by making a new layer, converting the image to a really high contrast black and white then bluring out and adding as a merge mode of add. Its great - so is that the same for this??
