Default circle poly?

I want to subD my circle poly - how do I do that without it goign all horrible looking? I've tried to weld the points in the middle of it, eg, coffee cup, at the bottom where the circle poly is?

Delete the circle and just make 3 or 4 point polys. Atleast that what they did in the Free Coffee Mug Tutorial.
