Reflecting objects
Is there a way to mirror objects over and axis that will change the opposite side on the fly.
I mean if Im in a 2D view with an axis cutting from top to bottom and I grap a vert on the the left, and move left, then corropsonding vert on the right will move right simultaneously. Thanks. |

There is Symmetry mode in Modeller (activate with 'Y'). However, your points do have to be in exactly the same position on either side of the X axis for it to work. (and it only seems to work properly if you work on the points on the +X axis).

mirroring can cause some problems though - so you may have to tweak the settings, or not merge points.
a different free mirror tool can be found off this tut: - http://www.newtek.com/products/light...head/index.htm

Techi, I downloaded those mirroring plugins. Where do they show up? I put them in my plugins directory and in modeler I added them but cant seem to find them in the menus.

I tested out those tools. I like how it mirrors right over the axis but it didnt seem to merge the points for me.
Then I used automatic merge and it didnt get any. So then I used merge with a fixed distance of 1mm and it was fine. Is this what you meant about merging points? |

Yep. You'll probably find that the points didn't merge for one of two reasons:
(1) You mirrored over the X=0 (or Y=0 or Z=0) axis, but your centerline points weren't actually exactly on the axis (2) You didn't mirror exactly on the axis. Before performing the mirror operation, select all the points along your centerline, and use the set value tool (Ctrl-V) to align them on the axis. Then, when you mirror, after dragging out your mirror plane, use the numeric panel to set the plane origin to the 0 point on the correct axis. |

yes it was what i meant, i also get other problems when mirroring my car and merging points, because the rear of the car is smooth shifted out to the edge there are points in the same area that dont need to join, the only thing i want to join is the very central line but dont know how to achive this, but then again it dosnt bother me as the body is to be built in seperate parts when finnished, so i can open up the bonet, boot, doors, etc....
