Guyver Project
Hey guys, along with the underwater enviroment, am building and animating one of my favourite Manga characters "Guyver".
Take a look at the picture, give me some feed back on modelling, texturing or other stuff i havnt even thought about. To let you know the underwater enviroment and the Guyer animation are one in the same, for a University course.:o I have also taken the orginal design of the character, and changed it a little, only because i cant model very well yet. Also any detailed texturing that i use, is created using surface baker. hehe nevermind. I like the model very nicely done.
You might look into giving the models eyes more depth.

you git :p this was gonna be my first character project, but more on the movie character style guyver....thought it would be amazing to get the transformation from human to guyver done with 3d rotation like in the matrix...but this wont stop me

hehe yer sounds sweet, hope you do that then i can pick your brain too, as all i used to model this was box modelling and verti bevel. each part of the guyver is its own object, their just parented to each other.
Animation will be very very basic forward kinematics.I want to see much more manga characters being transformed into the 3D realm. Even if someones already done it, I would like to see some one with more experience use their hand at it. Thanks for the comments guys. |

I do agree with johnny. The model is very nicely done, but the eyes definitely need more depth. They kind of look rushed over at the moment which is a shame compared to the rest of the character.
The thing to remember with any character modelling is that the eyes are definitely the window on the soul. Get the eyes right in any character, and other flaws in the mesh you can get away with... |

i will do it but im working on my car, and as its my first model it takes time, but i want it to be good so time dosnt matter to me..i dont think ill be able to animate the car untill i learn how to add model animations to an already rendered movie would take 12 min a frame with sky trace and everything

The trick is not to use skytracer for your actual movie, but bake it out using skybaker. If you're not actually animating the sky, then you'll only need to render a single frame (otherwise you'll be rendering the whole sky sequence), but at least you'll only then need to do it once. Couple of points to note if you're going to use skybaker: (1) Don't use anti-aliasing for the baking render - you won't really need it and your render times will shoot through the roof. (2) Render out at about 4 times your final resolution for your movie to avoid any unpleasant blurring of the image. |

just check the poly count on the model and was amazed!!
The count is 226,174 polys, although thats it subpatched, i didnt use freeze on it because of the amount of poly`s it does create but, mayb i might aswell. Deary dear. ;p Anyway working on the eyes. |

Ok heres an update not to pleased with this attempt of the guyver, think the best way to attempt this is to build a normal human first then start putting the armour on the body.
As i hav found problems with certain areas like the eyes. Taking reference from the models on the .net u can buy, this has a long way to go. Anyhow see wat u think. Heres a screen capture of the perspective.:bored: |

well im going to model a human in one layer, then add the armour segments in a seperate layer.
and i dont think the eyes are all that bad as from the anime and movie there isnt a lot of detail on the eyes cos they glow, you should think about smooth shifting them down so they are sunk in the head, then back out to a higher level than in the original..might give a nice effect if you colour all the down polys black.

yer limited with amount of time i got left for the Uni project but will continue the guyver modelling afterwards.
I need to think bout render times as always not good with a 1 ghz cpu. am just trying to get a new guyver animation right now also see how the portray him. Guyver (out of control) its a VCD on ebay apparently not available in the UK. Might inspisre me to other things, as this was my first attempt and have only been using lightwave for a couple of months. Thanx for the input guys. |
