How to model a film reel + canister
I was checking out Philip's home page today and couldn't help but notice his film reel model. Nicely done and well textured. I set out to make my own film reel with circular holes and "pressed" edges. I was trying to make each half of the reel look as if it had gone through a metal press.
Anyway... Using sub-d's, I can get the basic shape down... complete with ridges along the outer edge. However, I am stumped on the large holes and how to make them curve upwards and outwards. I'm not sure if Philip's model is sub-d or not... I suspect it is and so I am going down the same path. My main issue right now is the holes and how to handle the polys when converting to sub-d. Any thoughts? http://www.liquid-arts.de/welcome.htm
