Default WIP - Obligatory Starship

This is my first post in the WiP section. I decided I want to do a starship scene for a wallpaper. So far, I've completed the engines, and begun work on the mid section. If I decide to animate this, the mid section will spin providing a "gravity zone" for those on board. Crits and comments welcome.

And one of the engines alone with the rough part of the midsection. Still have to finish the midsection and then finish the front portion.

Ok, mid section is "finished". Now starting on the front section so I can figure out what goes where and what needs to be added.

Ok, here's the latest update. Engine looks done, although I'll have to see if I get a little more creative. Decided I needed a fuel source for the engines so I've begun modeling a tank section which will supply the fuel. Midsection (spinning crew quarters) are almost done. Working on the front now. Still need to start the portion which stores the cargo and provides the main ship defense.

C&C welcome

And now the front view, it's real raw, except for the naviational array which is pretty well done.

Coming along nicely. I agree that there's some nice detailing starting to come along in there.

To make you feel sick over how much detail you really can get in there though (and maybe for some inspiration - who knows), I stumbled across this link to an old Kier Darby set of screenshots of an old work in progress:

Actually, that was inspirational, I appreciate the link. That's kinda my goal is to keep working until I get the detail that I'm happy with. There's a line though of what you're going to use the model for. Alot of the later images are from texturing, and I'm not even close yet on starting that part.

But I've bookmarked that part to get some ideas and to keep reminding myself of what I'm working towards.

Thaniks for the link.

If you go to the main ap3d website (just trim off the \ws\.... from the link, you'll see the tutorials link on the right hand menu. From there, click the betterspace link. One of the best collections of 'how-to' pages for space stuff I have seen.
