Default Hypervoxel Transparency Problem

I was working on this scene that uses transparency maps to create grass on the ground and I used Hypervoxels to create smoke on the ground. So I do a test render with Ray Transparency turned off and the hypervoxels won't show through the polys I used for the grass. Then I turned Ray Transparency on and the grass polys become opaque. I can't win, is there anyway to get these hypervoxels to work with transparencies or should I just make another transparency map to make the smoke?

It seems my main problem is that the transparency maps are opaque to the light background when ray transparency is turned on.

I'd strongly suggest rendering in multiple passes and then comping together in post - will give you more control over the final image.

Hmm,,, i always use a cut map... under the objects properties,, you can see clip map.. try that.. Should work.. But you need a sharp black and white,,, clipping map to clip away your edges... Try levels and brightness and contrast in photoshop...

I experimented with different setings and solved the opaque poly problem by putting my background pic on a huge poly in the back of my scene instead of using it as a normal background.

The other problem with the grass polys not showing the full hypervoxel smoke was solved by making sure that no grass polys were within the hypervoxel cloud. The polys just won't display properly when they're inside a hypervoxel.
