McLaren Questions
Hi folks,
I'm just about to start the McLaren tutorial and i had a couple of question for those who have already completed it. I had a quick look at the first couple of movies and one thing I noticed was that Philip is drawing splines that don't necessarily follow the profiles of the background image. I've added a grab to illustrate what I mean, as marked by the yellow arrows. Now I don't know if it's not important to follow the profiles closely or if he's going to amend them later... but it would be good understand what he's doing exactly... since he's not that hot on actually explaining the reasons for his actions. Does anyone who has completed the tutorial have any insight? Although the tutorial looks nice and fat, I'm not keen on copying in parrot fashion since that won't necessarily help in creating my own cars of different makes and models later on. Cheers, Darren. |

In the first picture it shows where the dip is on the hood. The Fender stands up more than the hood. If you look at reference you will notice that. It's hard to explain but i hope you get what i'm saying.
Here is an image to show what i am saying (Notice the dip in the hood). http://bredik.euweb.cz/nezname/autokatalog/mclaren.jpg

Hi,
yeah... that makes sense... thanks! But what about the Top view? Those splines indicated with a yellow arrow don't appear to match up to anything. Cheers, Darren. |

Hmmm... I grabbed that image on the right from a point in the first movie *after* he scales the image. Does he adjust the scaling some more later on?
Cheers, Darren. |

No, you're always going to get the problem where the blueprints don't match perfectly in all views. Working around this is a part of the process...
There's an old maxim in 3D -- "If it looks about right, then it is"... Remember, this 'aint CAD |

Hi Mark,
OK, that's great thanks. As long as I know why he's doing what he's doing... Cheers, Darren. |
