Its always nice to have the luxury of working to a blueprint if you can. The character needs to be a lot more rounded right now - he's quite flat at the moment. Also don't taper him up too much going up toward the chest. The shapes are fairly basic at the moment so you'll be wanting to make sure that everything is of the right proportion if you can.

Best of luck!

I think the whole torso could be more rounded as a whole - the sides look a bit flat. If you can find the art of a Japanese artist called "Akira Gomi" then you'll have some nice views. Some of his work can be found here:

Note - the link goes to some human nudity so it ain't work safe.

Hi paintballfrog99,
I don't know anything about Lightwave (I've got Maya) but it does sound like Fallenswordsman has you on the right path. My comments would have been basically the same. Do you have a concept sketch or are you just going to design it as you model?

Also, for proportions, you could take a picture of yourself (shorts & t-shirt or no shirt) in the da vinci pose and use it as a reference.

well, my concept is what most people thin kof when the think of a pirate (at least its what I think of). a guy with a wooden leg, parot, and eye patch. And I like your idea of taking pictures of myself. didn't think of that. hopefully I'll have more progress soon.
