Default Chevy Small Block

I'm trying to make an engine to use in a future hot rod. But the problem is that it has 85000 polys so far. When moving the parts it is like syrup ... I need adwise how to make a model with less polys or speed up my pc.

Try selecting polys that you don't need to see and hiding them as you work on it. It won't reduce your count but it'll be quicker to work with. Looking good though!

That helped hide parts I did not need. I set up this FPrime render with an Area light inverse distance^2. i Also added an Image world HDRI pic Beach Probe. Have I done it right or is there a better way to do it?

i think you have to think what you want to achieve in order to set up the properties for rendering. what do you want for this render ?

I want the model to look photo realistic, but that is not easy. Setting up lights and maybe use a HDRI image / use Image World is difficult, I think. Is there a "standard set-up" I can use ? Thankful for good advices.

you're absolutely right. I'm still/searching my way to achieve such a look. I don't think there is a standard setup. Using HDR Images and GI can be very usefull to achieve realism.

There are a few good books you can buy and there are some good tutorials here that involve achieving realism in the final renders.

But it is hard, very hard.

I use the "old, trad. surface editor". Maybe I should try using the NODES editor. I haven't "got hold" of that yet, but it seems very powerful. Have you tried that, Jocco ?

I'm learning to work with the node editor. It is indead very powerful. But I really don't know very much of it capabilitys yet.

yes, i think you should try working with it and experiment. but do not expect any wonders. They forgot to build in the 'perfect render button'

There is a good video on the node editor over on Kurv's.

Apart from that, the traditional surface editor has also so many capabilitys ...

Just keep trying, and trying and be patient. Leave it alone for a couple of days and then try again. But always think what you are tryin to achieve !!!! Look for some good reference material.

I've got that node video. It is good, but I haven't worked with it yet. Maybe I should start working with it now on my new project : A Ford SOHC drag race engine with blower !

Very impressive- what size holley four-barrel do you think is sitting on that?

I now have visions of what a 1967 camaro would look like around this engine...

I don't know the size, but I think it is a 600CFM (or something...).
