Default LW[8] and DFX+ Offer from Newtek

OK, many of you will probably be aware of the special upgrade offer that NewTek are making (for those that aren't, they're offering an upgrade to LW[8] as a download when released, along with the boxed version of DFX+ for around $495 - which seems like astounding value).

Now, before I even contemplate this upgrade (having not seen LW8 at all, and knowing nothing about it's intended feature set/UI/etc, is there anyone out there in the community that has (maybe someone involved with the beta program) that can verify whether for a hobbyist who is happy with the current release of 7.5c if there is anything in 8 that makes it a 'must have' product?

C'mon - details please...

(and I realsise that any of you with info may be under NDA, but any hints as to the new LW would be appreciated).

Oh and BTW, anyone thinking of taking this offer up have until the end of June to get it.

I'm thinking of taking up the offer, but it depends on if I can get the money together by the end of this month.

If I can't I hope Newtek has a similar offer on when LW8 is released.

As for UK pricing, OneVideo.net (http:\\www.onevideo.net) now have the upgrade listed on their website at £399.50 inc VAT.

Please folks, anyone have anything on LW8 at all?

I am going to get this one. DFX+ with the 2 modules costs $1800. Even if everything else is a bust, you should be able to sell the DFX+ and break even at least.

I downloaded the demo and it is a pretty nice program.

I just got my big black box that is DFX+ - for some reason I also got LW 7.5b packed in with it - ah well, extra CD means that I can safely lose one of them without having to worry. Haven't had time to give it a whirl yet - needs registration and all that plus it also means yet another dongle hanging out the back of my PC. Maybe at the weekend!

There won't be any news on LW8 until Siggraph by the looks of things- they're really keeping things under wraps. Hope its all going to be worth it in the end!

I think you need to register the new version of Lightwave with Newtek. When you get your upgrade to LW8, it will be the new licence key that you need to use to upgrade.

Bytehawk on CGTalk posted this message they had from onevideo about the upgrade.

Yes, you need to register the new serial number through the Newtek Europe website. There is a "Register" tab in the top right-hand corner of the home page. I also send them a spreadsheet telling them who has bought which serial number, and when. They will use these records to send everybody who has bought LW7.5, after a certain date, details of how to download the V8 when it is released early next year. They will know which serial numbers are entitled to a free download. If you were to try to use your old serial number it would say that you had to pay for the upgrade.

Thanks for the info on that Rincewind. I must admit I was a little confused myself with the addition of the LW7.5 disc. Looks like I'll need to register it this w/e...
