Beveling Text
I recently was asked to make a friend's logo in 3D... I'm still very new to Lightwave. Here's my problem: He gave me a jpg and an EPS. The problem isn't bringing in the EPS (nothing could be simpler), but there is a pretty big bevel on the text in the jpg, and when I try to duplicate this, the model gets totally messed up... any ideas?

I suspect you're suffering from points overlapping when bevelling the text. This has been a perennial problem with Lightwave pretty much forever
Now, there's a couple of ways you can work around this. (a) Bevel the text as normal, then edit the crossed over points (welding where necessary) - this is tedious and a pain in the a$$ (b) Use a plugin like bevel++ (http://www.dtium.com/software/) to perform the bevel without overlaps. There may also be possibilities in LW8 if you have it (I've not really explored it too much yet, but it looks as though a simple in-place bevel with application of the Super Shift tool might do something along the lines you're looking for - although I suspect on individual letters only)... |

That bevel ++ tool looks like the way to go (from my less than 50 polygon test...), but money is tight right now... the $33 will have to wait a bit. I DO have LW8, and will see if I can figure this out later today, thanks. If anyone else has suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

In LW8, use rounder on all your face polys. It will give you a nice clean bevel.
