I'd be tempted to do something like the following:
1. Straighten out the fanbelt in a morph map so it is flat 2. Apply your texture to it using planar mapping in the morph 3. Now, animate the texture using an expression to offset the texture as the pullywheel rotates. |

What Mark say is very tempting indeed, But if your belt are those like with teeth,,, then sorry,,, animate them using endomorphs... Here is how you can do that,,, firstly model the belt with teeth in a circle, then create your first morph, give say 90 rotation and so on for the rest, do one for the streched fitting view, and hope it works,,,, The morphmixer will be able to use the circular rotations morph along with the stretched one. But you will have to look out for the normal errors and stuff.

This is a gigantic indusrtial main pully(at floor center.horizonatal) with two smaller ones located at other corner, making a 90 degree turn. the belt is hard rubber v shape. this drives a suspended conveyor line,so it's turns pretty slow.
if you get this pic, fred and jimmy are there for reference. this is still in progress thanks scott |
