Muzzle Flash
Is there a way to create a muzzle flash for a gun in Lightwave? I tried the program AlamDV or muzzle flash images, but all looks so ... uh ... flat .

An animated point light with Lens Flair settings could make a good muzzle flash.

Parent a Point light to the gun barrel where you want the Muzzle flash. Then turn on Lens Flair and you can add Central glow and streaks the main componants of a muzzle flash and adjust the size and colors to your likeing. I would turn off a central ring because muzzle flashes dont usually show rings. Animate the intensity of the lens flair and you got a muzzle flash.

I once made muzzle flashs using HV and particles I made in Modeler.
Here are some examples, if you like them I'll post the scene files. I know they aren't very great but they can easily be modified.

Sorry sod, unfortunately HV's are something that I've not played around with too much so far, so I can't really offer any advice here...

You should try to makeing your grid size smaller.
If you notice there are three nulls, one with a big HV cloud, one with a medium, and one with a small. Parent them all the the big and then move and rotate the big one into place. Use Viper to preview what it ilooks like.

Ah, those are the kind of muzzle flashes you want.
I was going for matrix style. Those kinds are very simple, just use sprites and play with the setting till you get what you want. It might take time, but once you get the hold of it and know what every thing does, it's very easy and quick.
