Smile two questions

I was wondering if anybody could help me a couple of problems I'm having....
first is there any tutes available on making dust and debris fly around such as when a plane crashes etc?
and second in one scene I'm working on a gantry crane is being used, the winch system can't be seen but I need to figure out how to make the cable become shorter as the load is lifted, and vice-versa
I really appreciate any help I can get

not sure about the debris and stuff, but for the cable: place it in its own layer, set its pivot point to its top end and just stretch it in layout. You could even set driven keys for that to automate the process.

Philip,
I,m still having trouble with the crane, at the end of the cable is a magnet, no matter what i do when i stretch the cable it also stretchs the magnet out of shape. I have tried seperating them in different layers, using bones, I know its simple but I can't figure it out.
Thanks mike
