Default Objects Moving along

i did the storm tutorial from this site

And i was wondering how i could move a object on the waves. it has to go up and down along with the waves...
i added 2 Nulls linked them with the ocean and nothing hapened i think i did it wrong

Default linking obj

when you link a null or an obj to another obj the only thing it follows is the motion of the obj. your obj that makes up the ocean is being drevin by a bump map. anything you link to it will not move because it dose not see the bump map. kinda sucks.
