What happens here when LW8 is released?
Hi Guys,
2 things... I was wondering what will happen with tuts when LW8 is released. Will all tuts become LW8 based? I was wondering whether I will need to save my pennies for a whopping upgrade fee or if the transition here won't happen immediately. Speaking of which, the eyeon DFX upgrade is being heavily touted by Newtek, if I wait until that offer expires so I just get a LW8 upgrade without the extra software, am I likely to save a lot of cash? I've only used LW for a little while, so I have never monitored what happens to upgrade prices. Cheers for any pointers ppl |

The DFX+ software is free with the upgrade. You will most likely have to pay $495 for the upgrade even after the deal expires.

I'd get the upgrade with DFX+ if you still can. Eyeon are doing an offer where you can get a separate dongle for DFX+ for around $90 so if you want to sell the software on to recoup some of your investment I suppose you can.

Catflavour - I suspect that tutorials will have some level of backward compatibility just as a lot of tutorials around now work with Lightwave 5.5 - just a few tools missing and a few workarounds needed for bits and bobs.

Cheers folks.
Mark, where have you seen the extra dongle info? I have had a look about and can't find anything about it. I'd really appreciate being pointed in the right direction |

I read about this on the Yahoo forums (there was a thread around a month or so ago).
If you check the Eyeon web site here: http://www.eyeonline.com/buying/index.html Then you'll see under Digital Fusion that the dongle upgrade is available for US$95. License transfer costs US$195.00 if you elect to sell your copy (although I suspect that this will probably only be enforcable once you've registered with the Eyeon website to get the license download). I'd double check with Eyeon that the Lightwave bundle is covered by this dongle upgrade still however, as they may have stopped it because of people buying the dongle and then selling on eBay... |
