Default Microsoft names new operating system

Microsoft announced Friday that it will call its next-generation operating system "Windows Vista."

The much-anticipated operating system had formerly been code-named "Longhorn."

What a boring name !

... although the words 'MicroSoft' and 'Next-Gen' used together would seem to preclude that

Personally I like their naming of Microsoft PC Health solution - "One Care". Spoken with a Clouseau-esque fake French accent actually makes it sound quite funny and makes you wonder what on earth they were thinking at the time.

It’s interesting to see Microsoft transition from the code name “Longhorn” to the official name “Windows Vista.” While “Vista” evokes images of scenic views and fresh perspectives, some might find it a bit underwhelming compared to the energy of the earlier name. Naming a product is always tricky—just like how innovative items like the air queen mask grab attention with sleek branding. Let’s hope Vista’s features can match or exceed the expectations built by its initial hype.
