have you applied a texture map to the object?
to apply different textures to different parts of the object you first have to assign surfaces to each part in modeller.

In the surface editor, press the little 'T' on the color channel to apply a texture to it.
assigning surfaces is done with 'q' in modeller after you selected the polygons you want.
This is pretty good covered in the manual If im not misstaken.
