Here is my version of the original vintage Cobra rim.I think lightning is difficult. I tried the Philip/McLaren-wheel upset and David Mitchell's 4-point lights, but I'm NOT satisfied. Good light-rig advices are welcome!!!

For the car I used splines and for the rim I used bevel (just like Philip in the McLaren-tutorial. But now I try to build the car once more using poly-by-poly.

I've got BIG problem! When "trying" to import the whole car into Layout, it crashes.I found out it had nearly large 130 000 polys!! And 110 000 came from the wheels ! Now I'm rather satisfied with the rims. Is there a way to reduce the rim polys or must I remodel them ? (They don't have to be that detailed when viewing from a distant, do they?)

Try this....Save each wheel to a different .lwo file
When you open Layout load each .lwo file at seperate times so that your PC doesn't overload.

Once that loads (if it does, cuz it should) go into every viewport and make the Maximum Render Level as Bounding Boxes.
You can find this by clicking on the triangle next to the type of viewport you want.

This way your Layout is not bogged down when you rotate/scale/size your object in the scene.

Hope this helps...

For a sub-d model that way to dense (rims). You can get away with a lot less polys than that and still maintain the exact same shape. You could set the subpatch render lvl for the tires to something very small like 2 since they are very dense you don't need to have it high.

Probably could use Bandglue in a bunch of areas.

The car doesnt look very dense but those rims are heavy. Defiantly need to trim those down. Try setting the subpatch lvl for the rims to something small.
