Thats amazing, I love this type of animation would love create something similar one day. How do you think it was animated? In a dynamics program like RealFlow? The synchronisation is perfect!

That's a clip, I believe, from one of the Animusic DVD's [See Link]. They use proprietary software for animation and sequencing. They have a few more clips and stuff available on their website. I have the first DVD and its pretty cool, a lot of really slick and inventive ideas.

It would be most fun to tackle something like that.

I think it could be done in Lightwave easily if there were a couple of like minded people to collaborate. The animations would be based on expressions using the actual physics of sound. For example, collisions would trigger a pipe based on the diameter and length-that pipe would oscillate at a given frequency, that is what makes the animation believable-proper physical attributes. Short pipes oscillate faster than longer ones- all based on our western scale of course. The drums are based on volume. I don't know if LW can have events triggered by sound (like After Effects) or MIDI? Anyone know?
