Lots of little things changed - the shape of the front fins, the shape of the mouth, the shape of the teeth as well as the second row added, overall width of the shark has been decreased. It is also rigged for animation now.

Have you modeled the jaw separate from the body?

When a shark opens it's mouth, the jaw shifts forward and it's lips peel back.

Jaw Shifting

It's a shame I can't find better pictures to illustrate it.

It's not nessecary if you haven't modeled the shark for this already, but if you did, it would give your final animation much more realism.

I made the shark in 3 layers. Body, lower jaw, and upper jaw. I didn't make the wrinkle geometry though since the shots won't need it and my time table is too tight. I have made a ton of mistakes on this one and I would like to build another one with more detail (like Rob Pauza did on Newtek's board if you saw it). I have about 15 minutes of reference video I keep open while I working on this, including some pretty nasty attacks on fish bait showing the shifted jaws. Scary fish!

Here is the just of the lighting:

1 - make some kind of random texture map in Photoshop. An easy way is to do a cloud effect on an empty image. Adjust the levels to increase contrast.

2 - Set your scene background to a VERY dark blue.

3 - Set your ambient light to blue and drop it down to say 5%.

4 - Set your 1 light to spotlight with a projection image of your cloud image. Turn on Volumetrics and adjust with Viper.

5 - Add a simple fog to the scene and adjust it in the camera view with openGL fog turned on.

Here is a rough cut of the video, including the animation of the shark if anyone is interested. The first 12 seconds or so are the shark. The file is about 4 meg.

very nice

i think though that the movements when it turns are a bit too rigid... sharks are really graceful (in a shark-type way ) and dont sorta make small little jerks liek that to corner...
