Yes, this is really looking very realistic. Great modeling and texturing.
I like the prestige look also. How about a little grime in some areas and some dirt with little peebles on the tires. |

Cheers Guys,
Thanks very much for the crits .. I am between a rock and a hard place with this model now as it is getting to a stage where I really have to make sure 'everything' is perfect .. which isnt helping my motivation .. lol Anyways I have attached 2 new images, the 1st is a more detailed tire/wheel .. which I havent yet implemented on the main model as you will see with the 2nd image .. however shes getting there .. to be quite honest, I have never been soooo particular with any of my 3D models before .. Enjoy L

Image 2:
This is a trial at some new render settings without radiosity .. render time on my mac with rez set at 2048x1024 and AA set at 7pass was 22mins rather than 10-12 hours .. doesnt look all that different .. PS: Obviously I have resized the image since render .. ![]()

another trial .. with new tire/wheel settings .. hmm, still needs a little work aye? Its been a little hard to try and get a decent shadow and texture on the rims without radiosity .. but I'll find a way .. or better still, any suggestions would be fantastic
Cheers, L

To improve your shadows, you could try the old spinning light trick (http://members.shaw.ca/phroggrafix/t.../spinning.html). There's also this method that was posted here not so long ago (http://forum.simplylightwave.com/sho...&threadid=4328)

Cheers Mark,
I did go through that technique, but it didnt seem to improve anything, I spose I was doing it wrong .. However I have seemed to have sorted some pretty solid settings and have made a pretty basic environment, Im thinking once I can be bothered texturing it perfectly it'll be done and dusted ..

Just a few little new bits'n'pieces
- tire marks on pavement - tire texture settings - aerial thingy - new setting on rims (still not happy with) - environment more detailed - lighting - render settings (7 pass) enjoy, L

hey...that's looking pretty good so dude...the rubber on the pavement is a nice touch...and the texture on the pillar car is really nice...one thing i'd look at to squeeze out a little more realism would be changing the color on the contact surfaces of the tires...that way it will look like they've been rolled across the ground at least...right now they're very evenly clean all over...anyway...good stuff
...for you rims...try this...nothing fancy but it's working for me on my current project... color: 128 128 128 diffuse: 50% reflection: 50% ...might have to had some spec depending on your scene/lighting...but this might work a little a better than what you have...hope this helps... |

You said you wanted environmental crits - to me the metal shutters don't seem to do the rest of the model justice - for whatever reason they just don't look like metal - lack of knowledge, however, prevents me from suggesting what you can do about it though. Still a great render though nevertheless.

There should be a highlight along the top edge of the proud parts of the shutter. I'd also add a very slight reflection onto them (but only very slight) - also add some reflection blurring ... that should make them look more realistic. As for the pillars, maybe reduce the texture scale on them somewhat might help to (*ahem*) cement them into the scene... |
