Well welcome to the board man

tips to get started, well I'm actually also a starter and I get my tips, tricks, tutorials and stuff at the same place every body gets them:

1) THIS PLACE
2) http://members.shaw.ca/lightwavetutorials/
3) http://www.niklasindustries.com/tutorials/index.php
4) http://www.stickman.de/content/stuff...tut_select.htm
5) http://www.evil-plan.com/
and off course this one

6) http://www.lightwave3d.com/tutorials/index.html

And books, well I heard INSIDE LIGHTWAVE is good, but I dont have it. It's on his way but waiting for it, but everyone uses is so I guess it's a real good book

Hope you like those tutorials and make shure you have a look at the ones on this site.

Theres quite a few nice tutorials that cover the basics over at www.newtek.com , also take a couple of ours to just explore the interface and see what every tool does, then when you feel you got a pretty good hang of it rush back here and download the awesome tutorials this site have to offer, I found that video tutorials gives alot more than a book can offer.

btw. welcome to the wonderful world of LightWave

Hope this helps a bit

Hi Seb!

I also started a few month ago to play around with LW, but without any books or tutorials itīs nearly impossible to scratch the surface in my opinion
So I searched the web for tuts and most people say that the following link is the best ressource for them.

Check out:

this great site

This site is regularly updated with the newest tutorials found on the net. There are lots of easy of beginner tutorials which should be good to start with.

I also bought some books, which are really helpful

1.Dan Ablanīs Inside LW7 (even Inside 6 could be useful if you use LW7.5 and this one is aleready very cheap)

2.Lightwave Applied 6.5&7

If anybody knows any other good books for beginners plz tell me (Iīm always looking for new reading stuff)

btw you aleready found a great site for tuts......of course simplyLW!!

Hope I could help you a little bit
Have fun

Wow! Thanks a lot for all your tips and pieces of advices guys.

I have already downloaded the tutorials from SimplyLightwave: they are fantastic!

Also, I've just been on Amazon.com and ordered "LightWave 7.5 Introduction to LightWave 7.5 - Tutorial 101 DVD".

When I get it, I'll make sure I share what I learn from it.

Thanks to you, I've already done a few models.

Cheers guys.

Thankfully Newtek have addressed the lack of tutorials via their site. It was pretty dire a year ago. Book wise, Inside Lightwave 7 helped me tremendously, and is actually an easy read - allot of what the manual should have been. There's a serious lack of Lightwave books available, in my opinion which I'd like to see change. Videos/DVD's I'm skeptical about, but the DVD's mentioned in here I've had my eye on for a while. Web tutorials can be useful too, especially the sites listed in this topic, not to mention this site. I'd really recommend one of the Inside Lightwave books (http://www.insidelightwave.com) though... and it's about time Dan Ablan got those freebie tutorials up though.

... And I'm really surprised that no-one has mentioned:

www.flay.com

as a source for tutorials and techniques...

As a one-stop shop for stuff it's pretty comprehensive.
