Default Gimbal lock

Hello , looking for riggin tutorials ive download chris olsen tutorial from newtek site.
In the video he says that you can avoid gimbal lock reseting the bones pivot position(or at least that was what i understand).
Now the questions:
Reset means :Select Rotate>rotate pivot and then general>reset?
Wich coordinates shoud i use when reseting the bones?(world -parent-local)
Theres is another way to fix gimbal lock in LW[8]?
thanks

when working with a character, by all means don't use the world coordinate system.

And the only way to really avoid gimbal lock is to isolate rotation. That means for the arms for instance using a bone between the clavicle and the upper arm to control only the arm swinging forward and back while the raise and twist is controlled by the upper arm bone itself.
