hello there...
ok, I've decided to take the plunge.....:p
Enough with the lurking around here, I'm gonna try and get something done.

My idea is to set up a nightscene at the entrance of a graveyard.

I've been wanting do make an old fashioned oillamp, so I'd like to build it and use that as the main light, together with the moon.

end of day one....

I'm not much of a drawing artist, so I'm making it up while building...
nothing much yet, I modeled the entrance of the graveyard.
working on the moon at the moment....
something went wrong with the colors though...all the red was gone after copying the pic to my internet pc...hmm
fixed it in photoshop a bit.

yeah, there's no proper lighting yet, and no shadows yet either.
( and the grass isn't going to stay that way either...:lmao: )

I'm thinking of putting two large lamps on top of the gate posts.
That'll give me some more lights to play with.

strange thing about the red is that my other red colors in pics and webpages look good, it's just my rendered pics...I have no explanation for it, hope I can get it solved...

little update...

added lanterns on the sides ( no lighting yet ), made a moon, and now I'm working on my oillamp....gee subpatches are great !
I never worked with them before I did the head tutorial on this site, now using them on my lamp, nice !

the gate is only a first try, gonna make it more fancy....

haven't solved my render problem, hope the pic shows up a little decent....have no clue how it looks on another monitor...

Wow, that's coming along great. How did you do the moon? I have a moon in my scene too, and I'm not sure how to make it.

thanks !

for the moon, it's just a really big sphere with with a moontexture and bumpmap aplied ( I already had it in my dir, but I think I got it from the nasa site ) added luminosity, and a glow effect ( you have to set it in both the texture panel ( advanced ) and the effects - processing panel ).

I also made a render of a skull model I had with dark shadows and added that to the moon texture, dunno if it's coming out enough though, I want it visible but not very noticeable...it's just a detail to make it feel a bit creepy...

Good job so far...try to fix the moon, you can see lines in it. Other than that, keep going.

Default hello admiralbcd

i like your starting scene .
i agree with scrdude55555 about the moon texture problem.
about the base of the lamp, you have waaaay too much polygons not needed IMO.

been busy with other things the last couple days...
time for an update...

changed the moon texture a bit...hope it's better.
the lines were caused by my skull texture, so I painted a little on the texture.

about the lamp, sandfish you're right !
I'm just starting to use the subpatches mode, I'm still thinking polygonal  , anyway, not gonna redo the lamp cause I already finished it.
I also made a spade ( or is it a shovel in english ) and that one's modeled more economic ...:p

also made a basic grave ( still needs detailing ) and looking for the best place to put my camera. Thinking about making a tree in the background to get some nice shadows.

also added pointlights in the lanterns.
I still have to make the light itself though...any cool idea on how to do this appreciated...

the line on the grave is caused by the holdingiron for the glass of the lantern, I don't like it, would like to make it more soft but dunno how.

PS : If the image is very dark and you can't see the wall, let me know, then I know which monitor to use as reference....

you can just make out the wall if you look really close.

looks very good btw

what writing are you going to put on the grave?

also i dont know if you plan on having the moon glowing but a moon doesnt really glow like that. might give it a more realistic look if you take away the glow.
