Default Lighting

Hi everybody!

Since the challenge for this month is Fear and the other one, I mean Loathing and the stress is on mood and lighting, I was just wondering why nobody uses more reflections in their scenes. Reflections may add to the mistery and, why not, a twist to the story.
Or you could use shadows in a more productive way than just to create the illusion that it's actually real.

What am I talking about?

Well, remember a movie, usually horror or thriller, where somebody is in the bathroom, over the sink, washing his/her face. But when they raise their head and look in the mirror...damn... they die. Actually they get very scared because they can't see their reflection in the mirror, but something much worse: like a monster, or a future version of them, complete with blood splatter, decay etc.
Or, remember the ball scene in Van Helsing? In that great ball room, with all those people. When the leading actress was dancing with Dracula and she looks in the mirror and all that she sees is her reflection, all the other people being vampires and all...

As for shadow...the examples are many...but the one that pops into my mind right now is in the video Nightwish - Nemo, when the girl's shadow is a cross. It's cool and it makes the watcher think a bit about what it means.

Here's an old wallpaper I did in Bryce a while ago. Just look carefully and you should see a lot more that at first glance.
If not, I'll post an explanation too, but I would be very glad if someone could grasp the entire idea.
Anyway... here it is. It's calles "Flight of Osiris"

P.S. C&C are more than welcomed, since this will be the first piece of work I post here, besides my avatar
It's just to make my point, so if you don't like it...say why and how can it be improved, since I plan to redo it in Lightwave, sooner or later.

And yeah, I know the colors are all off by quite a bit :shakehead

hi NoStr0m0
i think we're looking at reflections from a plane cockpit.
i don't understand much of it ... it's very confusing.
the plane looks good.
it is WIP for the challenge?

No, it's not a WIP; I'm not competing...yet...
It's just an image I had on my PC that would aid me in making my point.

About the explanation....
IF nobody sees the whole truth... which may be a bit hard since this image was originally a 1024x780 pic and I had to scale it down so I wouldn't get bashed by any moderator dor posting huge pics. But still...a lot can be seen if you just look...
To continue....if no one sees all of it I'll post an explanation in a couple of days, if nobody has anything against it, of course.

looks to me like it is death's scyth looking in his scyth blade seeing in face and a to be crashed person to die

if it is what i think perhaps the skull could do with being a bit more visible

And we have a winner! See, that wasn't so hard....

I didn't think about the crashing part, I just thought how would it be to look death in the eyes...

Anyway.. the part that you don't see well enough is the plane's cockpit and the pilot which is white with fear and his arms are streched out trying to defend himself from... anything, he's a gonner anyway.
Also, Osiris is the egiptian god of death so I thought it sound better than Death or reaper...
I kept the scythe cause it's tradition, isn't it?

About the colors....yeah, I know they're messed up, not just the face but I did it in Bryce a while back when I was little and stupid so I didn't exactly know what I was doing.

Still, does anyone like the Idea behind it?

a sycth seems to be tradition, although he just likes to carry it around.

death likes to poke you to death with his right index finger.
azrael is usually the death with the scyth

i like the idea carnt make it out stright away though
