Is it possible to use a video clip as a background.

Not that I'm aware of - I wouldn't know why you would want to either.

Yes, you can. Add it as a background image in the compositing panel. Just make sure your project and the video frames per second match up.

The only reason I've ever done this is for reference for a composite. I wouldn't render the composite out of LightWave, use a compositing program, like After Effects, for the end product.

Oops - must engage brain before answering. I thought you meant a background in modeller (that's what you get when you spend too much time modelling). Sorry 'bout that.

Thanks for your replies guys.

TowerFan I did what you said but it didn't work. My video footage is a Windows Media File. Should I be using a different file format.

Yeah, that's probable. Check the LW documentation to see if it lists compatible formats (not at my LW machine right now). Otherwise a bit of experimentation will be in order. I'm pretty sure it works with most Quicktime formats though.

Your best option for loading video in as a background is to convert it to a sequence of still frames and use that instead. Otherwise, Quicktime should work, as should AVI files rendered with a basic codec (such as Video1) ... don't think wmv files will play well at all. The back of the manuals used to detail all the technical specifications of the software including all the formats that could be loaded into the tool)
