Looking good Rigley. We going to see this one finished? The facial expression is already looking ominous (in a good kind of way)...

The way I'd think about mapping them would be as follows...

Make a long plane in the front view. Divide it many times vertically, so you've got something like:

+------------ . . . --------+
| | | | | | | . . . | | | | |
| | | | | | | . . . | | | | |
+------------ . . . --------+

Then UV map it and apply the iris texture.

Next, bend the plane into a circle (no I'm not going to try and represent this as ASCII art ) and render it so that you get a good sized circular image map.

You can then apply this as a colour/bump map to the relevant area of your eyeballs using a straight planar mapping...

It would be cool if you could have them all zipped and in the texture section, but I don't think you can do that if you don't have the rights for them.

BTW, if your eyes are perfect spheres, there is no need to use a UV map, just use a spherical projection.
Most people like to have it on a UV map since that way they can have all their textures in one image.
Just a tip.

thanks Kvaalen, i have found it out that sperical mapping may be good... but my problem is , that these textures are only for the iris, so if i map them to the spheres, there will be no "white" area.. if you understand what i mean... or i have to model somehow the irises too separately ?

about the iris textures, i still can't remember from where did i get them... it was free for personal usage thats sure, but i don't know if i can upload them to this page.... i think it was on a 3d artist's homepage, but i am not sure...

Just select the iris' poligons and assign a new surface to them (q)
