Adding lights effect render time?
OK I'm guilty of making several changes before checking a sample render. Some were surfaces (containing transprencies, few reflections), added some objects....then added a light and changed many properties to the other lights.
Now my render time seems signifintly higher. ( I have over 3000 frames to render) I made a lot of changes to the light properties and not sure i can remember how I had them. Are lights a big issue on render time? Because if they are not, that would save me a lot of time not worring about them, and look elsewhere. Thanx in advance to anyone that knows :bow:

you didn't mention what kind of lights you added. You didn't indicate whether you were using Global ilumination (GI). you didn't indicate which version of Light Wave you are using. need a little help in order to help
Area lights take more render time than say spotlights; Global Ilumination takes way more time than area lights. The latest versions of Lightwave have vastly improved render times and improved rendering of Global Ilumination. However, there is much to understand on setting up Global Ilumination properly in order to get the best render times and the best renders. Why don't you let us know a bit more about your scenes and how you've got them lit. Then we can be much more helpful Rich :blush:

Adding just about anything can increase the render time - lighting, motion, texture, etc. If you have a lot of lights in one scene, that could be a big chunk of rendering right there. I don't know all the details, so I can't say much, but if shortening the rendering time is absolutely necessary I think you could delete the lights and create new ones under the default settings and adjust them accordingly. Just remember that the more tweaks you make, the more likely the render time will increase.
