Really nice stuff. Been struggling my ass off with UV mapping this challenge and sort of got lost in trying this trying that, and having too much fun painting and testing sort of aimlessly. In the process I sort of lost the concept and what originally drove the idea. I end up with a weak concept and a image that looks neat at best and does not want anything sort of. Does that make sense?

I realized I should have done what you've done here. Start with the idea and the concept and stick with it. It's needed when both UV'ing and when paint time comes

Really dig the concept sketches. Good work.
