Default can't get rid of cage/wireframe in render

ok, i was doing one of the tutorials at mgfx.net and my render comes out as you can see on the attached image. its a frozen subpatch object that for some reason seems to be showing the subpatches in the final render. show subpatch cages is NOT checked in my display options, any other thoughts on what its doing? this is in LW 6.5 if that helps. thanks.

It looks like you're suffering from Degernerate Polygonitis. Whilst not life threatening, this seems to plague most Lightwave users at some point.

Treatment is simple. In Modeller, go into polygon selection mode (^H) and open the polygon statistics panel (w) In here, select all one or two point polygons and then delete them.

Finally, perform a merge (m) on your object and save.

Hope this helps...

beautiful, exactly what it was, thanks mark. didn't know there was a latin term for it tho

i'm guessing those 2-point polys are the residuals of the outline i created to lathe the cup from?

Most likely. Lightwave does seem to have a tendency to leave stuff floating around in objects after you've performed certain operations.

Often, it's a good idea after performing extends, booleans, lathes, etc. to drop in a quick merge and then check for degenerates.

... just one of those little annoying workflow hiccups...
