If that second picture is your first attempt at rendering the watch yourself then what on earth are you doing asking us ???

Seriously the only thing I would possibly suggest is either using a couple of area lights to try and get a more natural primary source and / or some HDRI imaging to get better overall ambient and specular effects.

try using a 100 diffuse white ground plane and a 85% white big and far away from the watch(like 500 m) area light use raytrace shadows and reflections and activate radiosity let everyhing default in the GI section...just change the backdrop to white.....sorry if i'm rude here [ctrl+f5]

i like the second atemt... hmmm... if you make one of those fake hands they have in some clock shops... and add a prize tag... that would make it more real i think... and hdr... nice textured ground under... maby clothing material?

mashmike: very nice start!!

an HDRI image world would really help the realism, but for the QT VR don't turn on radiosity or you'll wait for your render forever :p

as far as vreating the QT VR; you're lucky, I have a free tutorial on that here:

[Burns] Excellent [/Burns]
Seriously - this is a nice watch model. Love that Quicktime VR thing as well! The only thing I would say about the model is that the back of the clasp looks a bit bare - I don't know if this is what it actually looks like on the real thing and I'm sorry if it is, but it just looks like it should have something more there.
