Default sub patch or poly??

hi guys,
this is my first thread. hajimemashite!

ok, first question:

i normally do my modelling using subpatch. but i later realise that when i want to uv map it, the stretch map( the whole model become flatten thing) is still the original polygon.

so here's my question:

do ppl convert to all poly from subpatch when the finish modeling and wanted to do mapping???

i think the key to do that is freeze. i m confuse. why called it freeze?? why not convert to poly or something?? and any other function for freeze other than convert to poly??

sorry if i ask stupid question but i m a new user for lightwave. how you guys will help me up for this. Thanks in advance.
