Default Still cant sort it (Glass)

I have been trying my heart out to get this glass sorted, but unfortunately to no avail.
I do realise that there is glass texture settings in the presets, however my presets are no longer there since I did a re-install a couple of weeks ago and now I cant even un-install/repair my software.
I did try a couple of "glass" plugins but they didnt work either (i am not that bright)
All I really need is just settings for transperances, glossiness, etc

PLease Help

You really need two surfaces for glass and air surface and an glass surface. Take your glass surface copy it and paste it in another layer. Flip this surface and name it air. Paste it back in the glass layer and merge points. Then try these settings for starters.

Yea I just found a tute about the 2 layer thing last night, but it seems a little bit of a hassle, aye?

It may seem odd at first but once you understand the pricipal real world glass object will take on a new meaning. Robin Wood wrote a really good article about glass and almost every other glass tutorial is based on her article.

Aye 2 layers is extra work for glass but for Lightwave to correctly calculate the refraction of light through the glass surface it needs an air and glass surface. Good to learn though setting up the air surface is cake though real simple settings.

Haha, I 'spose I am a little lazy when it come to that sort of detail.

Default Still Going wrong...somewhere..

There's still something going wrong here, when I have the refraction on it looks terrible!
Do I have to have a little gap between the 2 layers?

are your windows subpatched? If they are when you merge points this will cause some geometry issues that will make these problems.

There are two solutions:

1) Freeze the glass texture

2) Do not merge points after creating the air texture.

Also make sure the smothing settings are the same, if your using 89.9 in the glass texture then make sure your using the same in the air texture.
