Dec/Jan - Normal Hiraghm
Like puppet, I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I'm setting up my space to do it in.

Okay, here's the basic idea for my entry. This is not what the final image will look like, just the backstory:
There was an old Amiga demo called "RoboCity" that, at the time, was jaw-dropping. I recently got an idea to create a game based on the idea of a robotic society, sort of a robotic "The Sims". Then I thought about it awhile, and considered what kind of MMORPG it would make. As soon as I I thought MMORPG, I thought "Everquest", so my bots changed from Sims, to RPG classes. I imagine robots escaping their human masters and colonizing a system of planets that humans couldn't, or wouldn't. They would have creatures, like mechanical dragons and mechanical spiders, corrosive environments, and would employ "magic" (applying Clarke's 3rd Law; sufficently advanced technology.) So you would have as playable characters: Wizbots (wizards) Warbots (warriors) Repairbots (priests) robbots (rogues) Scoutbots (druids/rangers) Herbbots (shaman) Scavengebots (necromancer) And of course they could modify themselves to advance their "level", and to specialize their skills. So this will probably be a zone or level scene from such a game. The bots will be more playful than menacing looking. Think of a Zelda type of character rather than Transformers or MechWarrior.

Excuse me, mtmckinley, but I have a question.
I've been digging through some of my old files for inspiration for my robots, and came across this 15-year old collection of characters I created for a side-scroller I never wrote. Would it be against the rules for me to change my mind and enter models of (some of) these guys instead? I've done nothing 3D (or anything else for that matter) with them. http://www.xtimports.com/graphics/miniguy5.jpg (edited to remove unnecessary picture)

Here's a shot of the generic head I will modify for each of the characters I do; it's based on the monk character above. It's 222 triangles, that's as few as I could get and still have it look like something. I haven't decided yet for the monk whether I'll just texture his hair on or add geometry for it.
I also still need to decide which / how many chars I'm going to model for the scene. Base wireframe: http://www.xtimports.com/graphics/guyhead01.jpg (edited to remove unnecessary pictures)

Okay, modelling the low-poly monk is pretty much done.
Base model: http://www.xtimports.com/graphics/monk01.jpghttp://www.xtimports.com/graphics/monk02.jpg Texture view (default texture): http://www.xtimports.com/graphics/monk03.jpghttp://www.xtimports.com/graphics/monk04.jpg Total polygon count: 510. Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome.

Well, I've had some interesting times (in the Chinese sense); 10-12 hour days at work, and then on top of it had to replace the hard drive in my lightwave machine. So I've been delayed, but I'm still in there.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll be in a position to post some of what I've gotten done so far. I've got 3 characters created. I'm going to do one, maybe two more. So far they're averaging about 850 polys apiece.

Okay, I sat down at Lightwave tonight and got some renders off of the 3 characters I have finished so far. I'm averaging just under 850 polys each so far.
I want to make one or two more player chars, then I'll use the rest of the polys to make the scenery, NPC monster, weapons, etc. Here are some of the renders. I can make bigger or closer ones if anyone wants. Comments and crits will be greatly appreciated! http://www.xtimports.com/graphics/3guys_small_04.jpg Above, is a straight-on shot of them rendering using radiosity. From left to right (in all pics) are the monk, the knight, and floyd (can't decide if he's a lazy druid or a depressed necro...) http://www.xtimports.com/graphics/3guys_small_02.jpg Above are the guys from a different angle. http://www.xtimports.com/graphics/3guys_small_03.jpg This one I had layout render the polygon edges with. The colors are just poly colors I'm using for reference; they haven't been textured yet.

Pretty cool Hiraghm, I would go for the depressed necro.

Thanks Zeeman et al. Looks like I won't be able to finish. Still working 10-12 hour days at work (trying to figure out how to do lightwave at work... ) and for my two days off starting tomorrow I'll be dealing with a freaking awful cold
