So...has anyone actually ordered Lightwave 9 yet? I think I've heard somewhere that the Vue offer is only available til the end of the month. I just don't like the "We'll phone you back" policy that Newtek Europe have adopted for taking orders. Whatever happened to just ordering the darned thing online and being done with it? Why do they need to talk to me for?

Sad to say, but this will be the first upgrade since 6.0 that I won't be purchasing.
NewTek didn't do themselves any favours last time with the incredibly long time they took to get 8 out the door. Now, I'd rather have software that is complete and (relatively) bug free, but announcing a ship date and then delaying it by over a year was just too much. I'd rather the cash stayed in my bank account earning interest instead... |

Admittedly, I was quite hacked off with Newtek's early ordering thingy for LW8 - yeh I got a copy of DFX+ but to be honest, I haven't had the time to even learn that yet. It did seem like it took forever for them to release 8 and it did nark off a lot of customers because of it. Now we've got a bizarre ordering system to deal with as well.
Lets just hope they learnt their lessons from last time round. I know Siggraph is a major event to announce upgrades, but to then leave people waiting does seem a bit much. |

Okay, just placed my order....I asked at the time when they were expecting LW9 to be released - the answer....by the end of the year. Whilst it would be nice to see it by then, I'm not going to hold my breath. It wasn't exactly made easy to order though. Hmm its October now, I wonder when we're going to see any screenshots...

Well, I reckon you'll have it sometime around ... this time next year if the LW8 release schedule was anything to go by ...
Or am I just getting far too cynical in my old age... |

Okay, for those who haven't ordered yet, the copy of Vue came very quickly indeed....next day in fact. Along with yet *another* serial number to register in order for Newtek Europe to send me my copy of Lightwave 9 when it eventually surfaces. The copy of Vue that I got was basically in a jiffy bag and is just a couple of CDs in a double CD jewel case - no big box or manuals like you got with DFX+. Admittedly, in that respect it was a bit disappointing as I like the standard huge boxes you get with these kinds of things. Now all I can do is wait...

We've got 4 copies of LW we run, so we upgraded one so we could get the Vue deal. We'll see on upgrading the others. Doesn't matter if it takes a year to come out, the promised additions are more than enough to get my attention. Once it's out, we'll upgrade the others as well. Hoop
