Unhappy Problem with sub-D modelling

Hello!

I'm having problems with the top of this german ww2 steelhelmet. The top part seems to make a crest as it begins and in 4 cornors there seems to be some pinching.

Can anyone help me with a solution to this problem??

This is the polygon flow..

Your polygon flow is tight on top and is possibly causing your pinching. You should try and keep the polygon flow uniform from the sides to the top as much as possible.

Johnny9ball:

Thanks for your reply!

I've tried your method of construction as seen on your screenshots, but I still get these imperfections on the corners.

Is it something I have to live with or is it possible to remove these elevations completely?

Please help...

This screenshot shows an elevation/imperfection

it might not show up in rendering, do a test render of it and see if it shows

Polygons where it pinches like that don't always show up in renders. Points that share three polygons or more than four polygons will have those pinching areas its best to try and work them to flat areas they show up more on curves. They also show up more if the mesh isn't uniform.

Most of the time they will render smooth. Try and test render.

Johnny9ball and Sake:

You are both right. The testrender shows, that the imperfections disappear. Thanks a lot..
