Default Problem when cutting detail in phone tutorial

Hy guys,

I'm having a problem and cant seem to fix it, i tried offsetting the extended geometry more bandsawing it scaling it more up but everytime i'm trying to lay down a cut i get this weird error that messes up my polys.(see image)

Anyone has a idea whats causing this, ive had it before in previous moddeling situations and i really would like to know what is causing it. It seems like the cut doesn't pick up all the polys.

It looks like you have some unwelded points or some points that were merged when they should not have been. You can isolate the polys by selecting them and pressing the equal button and then zoom in to find the problem.

Looking good by the way.

Thanks, great vid!

I've been looking around but i cant seem to find any unwelded points. It did seem to merge 4 point toghether after the cut though wich is strange.

Merging the 4 points sounds like the issue. Try undoing the bandsaw and then check that area. Look at nearby points as well.
In this image, you can see the types of errors resulting from unwelded points and merged points.

I cant seem to find the cause of the problem, all points are welded correctly and such, must have made a error earlier in the proces, hope i can find what i did wrong and learn from it.

Seems like i've found the problem, after the loop extend on the front piece i forgot to move it down a bit, because of that it merged around 4 points togheter somehow after the cut.

Moved the loop down a bit and the problem doesn't occur anymore.

Some wip images, been through the first 3 vids so far. I'll make test renders later on in the progress. And i havent yet done the trim on the inset screen, couldn't really get a good edge so i think i'll do it after the model is frozen.

Been playing with subpatch weight aswell, to minimize the polycount a bit, hope it wont get me into trouble later on.
